Dublin Coffman football's 1-5 slide puts playoff hopes in question entering Olentangy Orange week
A 31-3 loss to Olentangy Liberty in the OCC-Central opener leaves the Rocks needing a win over Olentangy Orange on Oct. 2 to keep their playoff path realistic.

The Friday-night crowd at Coffman Stadium watched from the opening minutes on Sept. 25 as the Rocks fell behind Olentangy Liberty and never found an answer, the final horn sounding on a 31-3 loss in the OCC-Central opener. It dropped Coffman to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the league — and put everything on Friday, Oct. 2, at home against Olentangy Orange.
The slide began on homecoming
The trouble on display in that league opener had been brewing since Sept. 18, the night the homecoming crowd packed Coffman Stadium and watched the Rocks score 35 points — and lose. Grove City's Blaike Jackson ran through, around, and past them all evening, piling up 534 all-purpose yards on returns, catches, and carries, and Coffman fell 42-35. On that night the scoreboard said one-score game; a week later, the Liberty scoreboard said the trouble was not a one-night lapse.
The math at 1-5
The first OHSAA computer ratings arrived with Coffman sliding just as league play began, the loss column growing at the wrong moment. The postseason path still runs on paper, but the Rocks are running out of Fridays to change the direction.
The moment to answer
After the 534-yard homecoming and the 31-3 league opener, the Oct. 2 home date with Olentangy Orange was no longer just the next game on the schedule. A win keeps the rest of the league slate alive and the playoff math within reach; a loss sends the Rocks deeper into October needing to run the table against the same conference that just held them to three points. For the families who fill Coffman Stadium each Friday, the band in the stands, and the players on the field, the answer arrives that night.
