Dublin’s Friday-night attention split in two directions Sept. 11, with Coffman traveling to Pickerington North and Scioto heading to Westerville South. Both trips ended without a Dublin point: Pickerington North beat Coffman 35-0, while Westerville South defeated Scioto 21-0.
Coffman’s road test
Coffman entered the nonleague matchup at 1-2, facing a Pickerington North team that had won two of its first three games, according to SI’s pregame preview.
The Rocks went to Pickerington looking to steady that uneven start. Instead, Pickerington North’s 35-0 victory compounded Coffman’s early struggles with a third loss in four games.
Scioto’s trip north
Scioto faced a similar measuring stick at Westerville South and came home with the same offensive result: a shutout. The 21-0 loss left the Irish at 1-3, while Westerville South improved to 2-2.
For Coffman, the trip to Pickerington North failed to settle a 1-2 opening. For Scioto, the loss at Westerville South left the Irish with three defeats in four games. After a scoreless Friday away from Dublin, both programs face the same pressing question: how quickly can they find their footing?
