Cardinal Health extends CVS distribution deal through 2032, reaffirms outlook

Cardinal Health has locked in its biggest customer for six more years.

On October 1, the Dublin-based company said it signed a binding letter of intent extending its pharmaceutical distribution agreement with CVS Health through June 30, 2032, keeping the current scope of services. The extension came alongside reaffirmed fiscal 2027 and long-term earnings-growth guidance.

What the announcement did not say was the part Dublin asks first: whether the extension brings jobs, wages, or investment to the Cardinal Place campus, where roughly 4,000 people worked as of May 2023, making it Dublin’s largest employer at that time, according to the City of Dublin’s Top Employers list.

What the extension covers

The extension continues the current pharmaceutical distribution services, and the company disclosed no financial terms. The prior extension, announced in August 2021, had set the agreement to expire June 30, 2027, so the new pact adds roughly five years. “We value our long-standing partnership with CVS Health and look forward to continuing to bring our best-in-class capabilities together to serve their customers,” Cardinal Health chief executive Jason Hollar said in the release.

The shareholder math

Cardinal Health reaffirmed fiscal 2027 non-GAAP diluted earnings per share guidance of $12.40 to $12.60, up 13% to 15%, and a long-term target of 12% to 14% annual EPS growth.

The stakes are considerable for the company headquartered at 7000 Cardinal Place. CVS Health is its largest customer, accounting for 28% of the $254.2 billion in fiscal 2026 revenue, which was up 14% from $222.6 billion in fiscal 2025. The five largest customers together made up 43% of revenue. Company-wide, Cardinal Health employed roughly 63,900 people as of June 30, 2026, about 4,000 of them in Dublin as of May 2023.

Shares rose about 3% after the announcement, which analysts described as removing an overhang on the stock. By contrast, McKesson — another distributor supplying CVS Health — has only an agreement in principle, not a binding letter of intent, for its own extension through June 2032, a measure of how firmly Cardinal Health moved.

The hometown question

Cardinal Health said it may provide additional updates during its first-quarter fiscal 2027 earnings call on November 5, 2026. Heading into that call, the question for Dublin stands: what six more years of CVS certainty actually secures for the people who work on Cardinal Place.
