Abbey Theater and Dublin Coffman students join forces for Macbeth

Dublin Coffman High School’s Drama Club and the city’s Abbey Theater joined for the Abbey Theater’s listed six-performance co-production of Macbeth in January 2025, connecting student theater with a hometown community stage on Post Road.

The run stretched from Jan. 10 through Jan. 19, with 7 p.m. performances Jan. 10, 11, 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. matinees Jan. 12 and 19. The production was recommended for audiences ages 12 and older.

A Coffman Theater announcement also carries a displayed September 2026 date. But the city’s 2025 Abbey Theater season announcement dates the six-show run to January 2025, and Macbeth appears in neither the Abbey’s upcoming shows nor its announced 2026 season. The September date may reflect a new posting, a republication or an error.

One show, two institutions

The co-production was more than a school play presented under Coffman’s name. The Drama Club and the Abbey shared one production, joining two parts of Dublin’s arts community that could otherwise operate in separate lanes.

The Abbey Theater is the City of Dublin’s community-theater venue inside the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road. The 200-seat room hosts theatrical and musical performances, movies and lectures, and the city makes it available to community and performing-arts groups.

That setting placed Coffman’s theater program in the same local venue used for community productions — a close-to-home connection between work developed by students and Dublin’s broader cultural life.

Roles beyond the footlights

Coffman’s theater program offers students several ways into that work. Drama Club membership is open not only to actors but also to students interested in props, lighting, costumes, sound and stage management.

That range is central to the value of a city-school collaboration. A production depends on the performers audiences see, but it also relies on the students doing the technical and organizational work that makes a show possible.

Dublin Coffman High School directs students looking for clubs and activities to the Coffman Theater website. For the 2026–27 school year, prospective Drama Club members are instructed to join Remind, pay a one-time fee, submit the required forms and complete the roster.
